Watch before you cast
Rise rings tell you where and how fish are feeding: a small bubble means a gentle take, a splash means a hard one, and a swirl means a big fish taking below.

A floating bait or dry fly for a rise of insects; a surface lure for a predator hunting baitfish.

Lead the fish rather than dropping the bait on its nose, then let it drift in.
