How the rig works
Distance and tide are the variables. A grip lead holds bottom in surf, and you read the beach at low tide to find the gullies and bars that fish patrol as water covers them.
Red Drum behaviour
Crabs, shrimp and small fish. Often feeds in water so shallow its tail breaks the surface ("tailing").
Shallow estuaries, grass flats, oyster bars, marsh edges and surf beaches along the US Atlantic and Gulf coasts.

Moving tides on the flats; rising tide pushes fish into the marsh edges.
