Season by season
Spring
Fish move shallow to feed and spawn as water warms toward roughly 60–70°F (15–21°C). Target protected bays and flats.
Summer
Early and late in the day in the shallows (topwater), deeper weed edges and shade in the heat of the day.
Autumn
Bass follow baitfish and feed heavily as water cools. Moving lures such as crankbaits and spinnerbaits shine.
Winter
Metabolism slows. Fish deeper, slower presentations such as jigs and drop-shots; mild sunny afternoons are best.
Timing varies by location
Seasons are for temperate Northern Hemisphere waters; in the Southern Hemisphere spring falls around September–November. Latitude, altitude and each year's weather shift timing. Closed seasons and size limits vary — always check local rules.
