Through the year
Season by season
Spring
Bass move inshore as sea temperatures rise; UK and EU rules have included seasonal catch-and-release periods.
Summer
Peak inshore season — surf, rocks and estuaries, especially around dawn, dusk and moving tides.
Autumn
Often excellent as bass feed on shoaling fry before moving offshore.
Winter
Most fish move offshore to spawn. Check current bag limits and closed periods before keeping any fish.
Timing varies by location
Seasons are for temperate Northern Hemisphere waters; in the Southern Hemisphere spring falls around September–November. Latitude, altitude and each year's weather shift timing. Closed seasons and size limits vary — always check local rules.
