Season by season
Spring
Perch spawn early in spring. On rivers in England and Wales the coarse closed season runs from mid-March to mid-June.
Summer
Small perch shoal and feed readily near cover and features.
Autumn
Larger perch become more active as fry and baitfish shoal up.
Winter
Widely regarded as the best time for specimen perch, often around deeper features and boat moorings.
Timing varies by location
Seasons are for temperate Northern Hemisphere waters; in the Southern Hemisphere spring falls around September–November. Latitude, altitude and each year's weather shift timing. Closed seasons and size limits vary — always check local rules.
